Creating Connections - Safety

Highlight: Wallabies (PreK) - Moline

A child in the Wallaby Room was building a Lego zoo for the animals.  The building in the corner eventually was created to be a tall tower.  The child put the zookeeper at the top of the tower so he could overlook all the zoo animals.  When the teacher inquired who was at the top of the tower the child indicated, “It’s the zookeeper.  His job is to keep all the animals safe.”  The teacher continued her inquiry, “What do you think the zookeeper would do to keep the animals safe?”  The child responded, “He needs to feed them and water them.  He keeps all the animals safe.”

Connection: Safety

In order to grow and learn, children need to feel safe.  In order to feel safe, children need to feel connected.  The best evidence for safety is when children internalize it.  This child acted safety out through her play.
